Community Development
Anglican Parish of the Barossa
Julia Cropley has taken up a position in the Northern Territory for six months and has been granted leave for that period. Dayna Cropley has been appointed to fill the vacancy and will address the impacts of domestic violence, homelessness, mental illness, and youth suicide in the Barossa Valley. Dayna has extensive knowledge and experience to undertake this role, and the Parish Council is pleased to be able to continue this valuable counselling service to the community, without any gaps in the provision of services.
If you are in a position to assist in Community Development opportunities, please contact Pru Blackwell, Parish Co-ordinator, on 0427 701 028.
Domestic Violence Prayer and Support Group.
The Prayer Group will recommence on 30th January 2025 at 10.30 am at St Aidan’s Anglican Church on the corner of Murray and Fiedler Streets, Tanunda. This Group is planning to meet monthly, so please contact Pru Blackwell, Parish Co-ordinator, on 0427 701 028 for the dates.
The aim of this Group is to support our Parish’s Community Development work, particularly the Domestic and Family Violence Program, as an expression of our faith by caring for others as commanded by our Lord.
Faith without action is an empty bowl which offers nothing.
Faith enacted is a bowl which overflows despite being depleted by need, as it is continually refilled by the faithful.
As a Parish we stepped out in faith when we supported the employment of a Community Development Co-ordinator. While that has taken us where we did not expect to go, we have in the process been shown where great need exists in our community.
Programs addressing these needs require support. For us as Christians our primary response of support should be PRAYER, through which we seek God’s blessing and his will/direction in this, rather than our own preferences and God’s strengthening for those working directly with the Program’s clients.
Whilst doing so we need to remember God’s ways do not resemble our own.
Besides prayer there will also be many practical ways the Parish may support this Program, and which are likely to be intermittent or one-off acts of service that we can plan for ahead of time.
I pray you will want to join me in this.
